Startling Salt Statistics

About 75% of the salt in our diets is added to commercial foods during processing or to restaurant foods during preparation. Only about 25% is found naturally in food or is added at the table or during cooking by consumers. Via http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20111020/cdc-most-americans-eat-too-much-salt

How diligent are you about watching your salt intake?

According to this new release 90% of American’s consume more salt than they should!  This is a big number.

Sodium has a way of sneaking into our diets in seemly innocuous places like breakfast cereal, cheese, and our beverages.  Have you ever looked at the nutritional information of most canned soups, even healthy variants?  The sodium contact can easily be more than 1/2 of what you should be consuming in an entire day in one serving of soup.

Take a moment and get to know the foods that are a staple in your household, or your favorite items to order out, and you might just find that you need to alter some of your habits for a healthier life!
